The district of Albarola is traditionally famous for the production of fine wines and the cultivation of figs, indicating a particularly mild climate. The Villa Peyrano and the Palazzo Barattieri, each the centre of of a wine estate, face on to the main street of the village. Nearby is the church of Sant`Antonio, which has a large canvas attributed to Genovesino and a beautiful 18th-century chandelier. The churchyard, paved with stones from the bed of the Nure, was laid out at the beginning of the last century. In the past there were mills at Albarola with trip hammers for the working of copper, and in the 19th century the Grazzano stream powered paper mills at Follo and Follazza. The parish of Sant`Antonino in Piacenza controlled the economy of this area, which was important also because there was a bridge here across the river Nure.
