The municipality of Bettola, in the mid-valley, is 123 m above sea level and is one of the largest municipalities in the province of Piacenza. Not quite 3,200 people live in this territory dedicated to hospitality, commerce and agriculture, a land rich in history, where towers and castles take their place beside reminders of peasant life and art, where the river and its tributaries create hidden valleys and spectacular views. Here the hillsides become steeper and steeper until they rise into mountains, and the noise of the busy valley floor is hushed in the silence of the forests, crossed by roads one time used by Ligurian and Piacenza merchants. This splendid scenery is now the backdrop to hiking and mountain bike trails, as well as to the "ippovia", a route for horse-riding which crosses the territory of Bettola, and is not easily forgotten .... and nor are the tastes and flavours of the local gastronomic specialities.
