Bramaiano

An old village on the right bank of the Nure

The village lies on the right bank of the Nure at 440 m above sea level. Previously it was known as Maiano but then the name was changed to avoid confusion with a place of the same name in the municipality of Podenzano. The parish church stands out among the old rural buildings and more modern constructions. Nearby is the splendid castle of the Caminata.

  • The imposing fortress, the heart of the defensive system of the Nicelli, was turned into a gracious country home in the 16th century with the addition of elegant loggias. Today it is privately owned and not open to visitors.
  • Rural buildings in the village of Bramaiano
The two villages, part of the municipality of Bramaiano, contain interesting traces of rural architecture.
  • The foundation of the parish church dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta dates back to the Middle Ages. Its present appearance is the result of subsequent transformations.
