The name of this locality appears for the first time in a document of 880. The following century the church of Sant`Antonino in Piacenza had rights over various properties in the area of Cassano and the Emperor Lothair recognised the right of the canons of Sant`Antonino to erect defence works and fortifications. It was Ermengarda in the 11th century who gave the castle, together with 72 perches of land, to the church and canons of Sant`Antonino. Later the property and fief passed to the Salvatico. Today very little remains of the castle but it is possible to visit the church of San Lorenzo.
