Saturday and Sunday 21 and 22 September the second ediition of Ladybird Day at Grazzano Visconti, an event that aims to celebrate the world of the so-called "useful insects", tiny creatures which risk extinction but are of vital importance for the ecosystem and fundamental to the food chain.
The purpose of this initiative - which takes place in the prestigious setting of the Park of the Castle of Grazzano Visconti - is to promote and spread an important message: the safeguading of nature and the defence of protected species from the uncontrolled concreting over of the countryside that characterises modern times.
Queen of the event is the ladybird, precious predator of aphids but also a charming insect that brings good luck. During the weekend other useful insects from the wild garden will also be celebrated: from bees to beetles, from butterflies to coleoptera, to be admired in the splendid Park of the Castle of Grazzano Visconti (more than 15 hectares), one of the Grandi Giardini Italiani. Here the organisers have created a special Butterfly Haven for the event, with the liberation of hundreds of butterflies and ladybirds in the park.
The Ladybird Day is aimed at a wide variety of public, from families to collectors to nature enthusiasts and art lovers. During the two days there will be numerous workshops for children, theatrical shows dedicated to the subject, art and photography exhibitions, lectures and round tables dedicated to the ladybird, the bee and the wild garden.
In addition there will be a gathering of original Volkswagen Beetles in collaboration with the historic Maggiolino Club Italia.
