In the upper Chero valley, more than 570 metres above sea level, we find Groppovisdomo, today a quiet spot lost in the green of the woods, which attracts many holidaymakers in summer.

The hill where the village stands has been inhabited since ancient times, as is demonstrated by graves dating from the Iron Age.

The village owes its name to the lie of the land and to the Vicedomini family.
In fact, Groppovisdomo stands on a “groppo” - a high point - and was a fief of the Vicedomini family, who had a castle here, later adapted as a residence.
The history of the village is closely linked to this fortress and to the Visdomini family.
The lordship of the Visdomini was contested by Bertolino Nicelli, who attacked the castle in vain in 1515.
In the 1530s the castle was divided between different members of the Visdomini family and by the middle of the 17th century – when it belonged to Giacomo Nicelli – it was no longer lived in.

The most important building in the village is the church of San Giovanni Battista, rebuilt in the 18th century. Inside it is decorated by Alberto Aspetti and Paolo Perotti.
