Lying at an altitude of 955 metres above sea level, Mareto is famous as a summer resort and for the cultivation of potatoes. So, in September comes the moment to celebrate this product of the land with a gastronomic festival. The local potato cake is justly renowned and can be purchased in the bakeries and groceries of the district. Farini, the municipal centre, also has a fair dedicated to the potato cake early in May. In addition, Mareto awards a prize, the "Golden Scalpel" to surgeons who have given distinguished service; the award is made every year at a ceremony at the end of June. The church of San Martino goes back to the Middle Ages but today has a 19th-century appearance.
