Impipatene e guarda in alto - the curious motto of Grazzano
The motto of Grazzano is an example of the sense of humour of its creator, the Duke Giuseppe Visconti.
Around the stem of a red carnation there is wound a scroll with a motto written in Gothic letters. However, the message is incomprehensible at first, “otla ni adraug e enetapipmi”. Its meaning emerges only when it is read from left to right, when we discover the unrepentant motto "Impipatene e guarda in alto”, which can be roughly translated as "Don't give a damn and look straight ahead!".
