The apparition of Our Lady of the Roses at San Damiano
In 1961 the small village of San Damiano in the municipality of San Giorgio Piacentino hit the headlines after a presumed apparition of the Madonna to a peasant woman, signora Rosa Quattrini.
It was the 29 September when the Madonna appeared to the signora, mother of three and seriously ill. Every Friday from then on the Madonna reappeared at noon for several years.
During one apparition, on 26 May 1967, Our Lady spoke about the water of San Damiano, saying it was "the holiest in the world".
Unlike the apparition of the Blessed Virgin of the Quercia (the Oak Tree), the apparitions of the Madonna del Roseto (Our Lady of the Rose Garden) have not been recognised as authentic by the Catholic Church.
