Church of Santa Maria Assunta at Tollara
Parish church of Tollara
An earlier church, declared to be of ancient origin but without any artistic value, that for centuries had received little care and that could no longer be saved, was demolished in the 19th century. Only the sanctuary was preserved, being turned into a sacristy.
The present church was finished in 1843. It has a simple façade. The interior is a Greek cross and contains a painting by the Piacenza artist Paolo Bozzini, showing the Assumption of Mary, given to the church by the Duchess Marie Louise (the Austrian archduchess married to Napoleon). There is also a statue of the Madonna and Child, repainted by Francesco Ghittoni.
