Church of San Martino Vescovo in Torrano
Parish church of Torrano
We do not know when the church was founded but in the 14th century it was a pieve, the principal church at the centre of the district, with jurisdiction over the other churches of the upper and middle valley of the Nure and beyond, even into the Chero valley.
Over the centuries the church has been the object of transformations and campaigns of redecoration which have left their traces. The last important modification was in the 19th century.
Today the church is dedicated to St Martin, Bishop. It has a simple exterior divided in three horizontally. At the end of the 19th century the façade was painted by Francesco Ghittoni; today only the Madonna in the lunette above the doorway remains of this fresco. Inside you can admire the delicate architectural painting (quadrature), almost rococco in style, attributed to Giovanni Battista Natali and carried out about the middle of the 18th century.
