After the Middle Ages the area became a fief of the Da Rizzolo, of the Salvatico, of the Anguissola ..... It was the first lords, the Da Rizzolo, who left an important mark on local history. In fact, it was they who founded the mediaeval castle (private property not open to visitors) which still dominates the village, the parish church and a monastery which stood on the road to Tollara.
Parish Church of Rizzolo
The building, founded in the Middle Ages, was rebuilt in the 18th century and contains some interesting works of art, such as the frescoes by the Bibiena, and the Holy Family by Francesco Ghittoni.
The castle was built for defensive purposes in the Middle Ages and made still more powerful by Gian Galeazzo Visconti. It became the summer residence of the Salvatico family in the 18th century.
