The Nure Valley
Beautiful in its variety, the Nure Valley offers visitors unique unspoiled landscapes, which they can enjoy during excursions on foot or on mountain bikes, or following the splendid horse trails winding between vineyards and woodlands.
The river Nure runs through the valley, past enchanting towns and villages that recount the ancient traditions of the valley: from the village of Grazzano Visconti - built in mediaeval style at the end of the 19th century in order to preserve the important local crafts from one generation to another - to the towns of Ponte dell’0lio and Bettola, bustling commercial centres on the trade route between Piacenza and Genoa since the Middle Ages.
Climbing to the upper reaches of the valley, glorious wild country stretches for miles. Here nature is king. Lake Nero and Lake Bino were formed by glaciers during the Ice Ages. Today Lake Moo is almost entirely filled in and has become an extensive meadow so that this huge natural amphitheatre really forms the "green heart" of Piacenza.
The panorama reaches its climax with the peaks of Mount Bue (1,777 m), Mount Nero (1,771 m) and Mount Ragola (1,753 m), covered in thick forests where rare and protected shrubs and flowers grow.
The fauna of this area, too, is particularly rich and varied: apart from wild boar, wolves, foxes, roe deer and fallow deer, it is possible to see hares, buzzards and squirrels....
Travelling along the whole of the Nure valley - following the road for 80 km - you find a succession of agriturismi, farms, wineries and estates that bear witness to the agricultural roots of the valley and you see where the famous cured meats are still produced according to time-honoured traditions.
