Coro ANA Valnure - ANA Choir of the Nure Valley
The official voice of the Alpini of the Nure Valley has given hundreds of concerts in Italy and abroad
The official voice of the Alpini of the Nure Valley, the Coro ANA Valnure traces its origins to the Corale Bettolese founded in 1973 in the parish of San Bernardino in Bettola by Don Vincenzo Calda, who gathered a large following of people who enjoyed the songs of the mountains.
In its first year the Corale, directed by its founder, included both male and female voices but by the next year it had been decided to limit it just to male voices.
As the years passed new members joined the choir, not only from Bettola but from the whole of the upper Nure Valley, and it enlarged its repertoire from mountain songs to include the preservation of the popular traditions of the Valleys of Piacenza, in particular the Nure valley.
In this way the Coro Valnure was founded (1982), directed by Maestro Don Gianrico Fornasari - parish priest of Groppallo and later Episcopal Vicar for the Val Nure – a man with a great passion for music and especially for the songs of the mountains.
Don Vincenzo Calda, founder and first maestro remained the president.
In 1985 under the name of Coro Valnure, it was twinned with the Associazione Nazionale Alpini in Congedo (National Association of Alpini on the Reserve), Piacenza branch, and in this way the former Corale Bettolese became the "voice" of the Alpini in this area and its name was changed to Coro Valnure, Sezione ANA di Piacenza.
In 1987 Domenico Callegari became president of the musical group, while Don Domenico Calda was nominated President Emeritus. After the president's death, his widow, Dionisia, took over as president of the Choir.
The collaboration of the Directors first with Maestro Paolo Bon and then with Maestro Giorgio Vacchi has led to the choir becoming involved in the preservation of our musical heritage, studying and rediscovering the style of song and singing typical of the Apennines of Emilia, and focussing on the Valleys of Piacenza. These studies continue thanks to the possiblity of using the material of the Centro Etnografico musicale provinciale.
Over more than thirty years of activity the Coro ANA Valnure has given hundreds of concerts in Italy and abroad. Every year it takes part in the traditional Gathering of the Alpini from all over Italy, as well as the regional and provincial gatherings of Alpini, and also numerous musical events in Italy and abroad.
