Founded in 1968 at Selva near Ferriere, the choir executes traditional mountain songs
Founded in 1968 at Selva di Ferriere, the Coro Montenero aims to preserve the tradition of the mountain songs, which it wishes to hand on to the generations to come.
Since 1980 it has organised the festival ‘Venendo giù dai monti’ (Coming down from the Mountains), which in 2004 was held in the prestigious setting of the Conservatorio “G. Nicolini” in Piacenza. Since 1997 it has organised the festival “Cantare in Coro” (Singing in a Choir) and in 1984 it set up a prize to be awarded annually to figures who have supported the Italian popular choral tradition.
Directed by Mario Azzali, the Coro Montenero has taken part in prestigious choral festivals in Italy and abroad - in Hungary (“16th International Choral Festival of Miskolc) and Brazil (10th International Festival de coros de juiz de fora’).
In 2005 the Coro Montenero won the “A Lanterna” prize, achieving the first place at the 13th National Competition of Alpine Choirs at Savignone.
