Gruppo Folcloristico Musicale La Coppa

Musical Band of Carpaneto Piacentino

Carpaneto Piacentino Carpaneto Piacentino Carpaneto Piacentino
The musical band of Carpaneto Piacentino has a long history, as it was formed in 1880, thanks to a group of music-lovers including the maestro Augusto Foppiani.

The band's official debut, before it even had a real name, was in 1896 when it played at the dedication of the shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary at Casa Gobbi in Cimafava; a plaque on the front records the event.
The band then generally played at civic occasions.
After 1921 the band assumed for the first time an official name, deciding to call itself the “Banda della Giovinezza”. At that time the band included a large number of youngsters dressed in the uniform of the “Balilla”, the Fascist youth organisation.

In 1952, when the festa della coppa was celebrated for the first time, the band decided to adopt its present name of “Gruppo Folcloristico Musicale LA COPPA” in honour of this festival.
The musical director was Maestro Marinelli, composer and arranger of many tunes, most of which are still in the repertory. He also composed the Marcia La Coppa, still the band's signature tune. He increased the number of players and gave the band its present form.

In the 1960s majorettes and drummers were added to the band.

Today there are 23 musicians, 25 majorettes and 4 drummers in the band. The musical director is maestro prof. Gabriele Barbieri, the president sig. Bosi Pierluigi and the captain of the majorettes is Agata Fariselli.
The uniform is white and blue for the majorettes, blue and grey for the musicians. Amongst the band's activities are introductory music courses for aspiring musicians and a course of rhythmic gymnastics with twirling to prepare new majorettes.
Both the courses are led by members of the band.

The LA COPPA band is formed exclusively by amateur self-taught music-lovers who, without making any profit, dedicate themselves to keeping the band alive along with its musical and folklore traditions.

The band performs principally in its own district (Carpaneto, but accepts invitations also from elsewhere, undertaking to represent the town when taking part in other events.

The LA COPPA band has two sections:
musical section: those members who play the musical instruments typical of bands,
folklore section: majorettes and drummers.

The group organises internal courses of musical education for wind instruments and dancing with twirling to form new players and majorettes, taught by members of the group and open to all who enjoy the activities of the band.

Since 2011 the band has belonged to BANDA LARGA, an iniziative that brings together, once a year, all the ten bands found in the area of Piacenza in the towns where the bands are based, with the purpose of promoting the activity of the bands.

Since 2012 the “LA COPPA” Musical Folklore Group has belonged to the Consulta delle Associazioni, a non-profit organisation uniting all the voluntary and sports associations in the municipality of Carpaneto, with the purpose of co-ordinating their activities.
