New Sisters of Podenzano
Female Gospel choir founded in 1999 counting 12 singers
The Gospel voice of the Nure valley, the New Sisters choir is a group of women's voices founded in 1999 thanks to a group of girls in Podenzano who loved Gospel music.
The New Sisters group today includes 12 singers who offer a musical performance that mixes spirituals with the sounds of the Blues and jazz.
The repertoire (more than thirty pieces) includes religious texts, especially from the New Testament, some of which are performed ‘a cappella’, that is, unaccompanied.
In fourteen years the New Sisters have given more than a hundred concerts and have performed in many towns of the province of Piacenza and in numerous parishes. They have given concerts on the occasion of special events, weddings and fairs, and have also collaborated with Merqury Band and the Animali Rari, also recording a piece for the album Tributo degli artisti piacentini al capolavoro dei Beatles "Sergent Pepper's" (Tribute of the artists of Piacenza in memory of the Beatles' masterpiece "Sergeant Pepper").
In 2007 Monsignor Luciano Monari – Bishop of Piacenza until 2007 - granted the permanent Patronage of the Diocese of Piacenza-Bobbio.
In 2004 the New Sisters recorded the CD-project ‘Hope Of Life’ for charity and in 2007 the CD/DVD ‘Voice of a drop’ to promote the "Programma Acqua in Karamoja" (Water Programme for Karamoja) of Africa Mission.
