The Giubbe Rosse - the Red Jackets, the band of Ponte dell'Olio
Ponte dell’Olio boasts the oldest recorded band in the province of Piacenza. The original nucleus of the Corpo Bandistico Pontolliese can be traced back to the pipers' band, the "banda de' pifferi di Ponte Albarola". Ponte dell'Olio was once known as Ponte Albarola and the band was active already in 1752, using locally made instruments.
In 1860 the town council issued a constitution for a band and in 1872 the director was Dr Cesare Ghizzoni, conducting 11 players.
The Corpo Bandistico was refounded after a break due to wartime problems and in 1969 was the first in the province of Piacenza to enjoy the support also of majorettes.
Today the Corpo bandistico Pontolliese, also known as the Giubbe Rosse because of their bright red jackets, runs a music school that has produced numerous young talents.
