Wolf
In recent years the beech woods of the Apennines have once again begun to give refuge to an old protagonist of moountain life, the wolf (canis lupus).
In the mid 1980s the wolf returned to our mountains, probably arriving from the central and southern Apennines.
Today those areas of the Piacenza Apennines most affected by the presence of these beaasts of prey are the watershed between the Trebbia and the Aveto, the Boreca valley and Mounts Alfeo, Zucchello, Carmo, Legna, Cavalmurone and Lesima.
In 1992 15 wolves were counted, divided into three packs.
