Carpaneto Piacentino
Things to see
Of the old village with its long history behind it, today there remains only the Palazzo Scotti, the old castle that today is the Town Hall, and the church of Santi Fermo e Rustico, founded many centuries ago although much altered since.
In the little garden beside the Town Hall is the monument to the Fallen, one of the first to be erected in this area. The large squares are the result of modern town planning. Together with the older Piazza XX Settembre, they give the town the appearance of a series of drawing rooms: Piazzale Rossi, Piazza Oliveti, where the markets are held, ... or "la Verta", the lane that connects these two squares and the Viale delle Rimembranze, the memorial avenue planted with limes with memorial plaques.
It is certainly worth stopping in Carpaneto, to admire the church, which is a national monument, to stroll along the broad avenues, to relax and enjoy the green spaces, or to sit at one of the cafés that enliven the large squares and savour a snack with cured meats and cheese and a glass of good wine, watching the life of the town go by with a distracted eye.
