Georges Cogny - chef
To the chef Georges Cogny, French by birth but a citizen of Piacenza by choice, thanks to his love of Lucia Cavanna, goes the merit of introducing the nouvelle cuisine to the city and province of Piacenza, adapting it to the raw materials of this territory.
Already a famous chef, he arrived at the Locanda Cantoniera in Farini in 1965, where for some years he offered the customers of the restaurant, tourists or local people, simple traditional food with occasional French influences.
In 1976 he left the Nure Valley to open the Antica Osteria del Teatro, a restaurant destined to become the emblem of haute cuisine in Piacenza. After ten years he returned to the Cantoniera, and with his culinary art made the Nure Valley famous all over the world.
In those years he was also the master of many talented young cooks, such as Massimo Bottura, Filippo Chiappini Dattilo, Isa Mazzocchi and many others. He died after a long illness in 2006.
Every year Farini celebrates the memory of Cogny with the Georges Cogny Evening of International Cuisine, when his inventions are recreated by the great cooks who were students of the master.
