Giovanni Rossi
Giovanni Rossi was born at Villò near Vigolzone in 1882.
In addition to being an able entrepreneur, he was aware of the social needs of his time. He built the first houses for his workers, opened cooperative shops with subsidised prices, started a school for workers' children. In the period just prior to the First World War he was also Mayor of Ponte dell'Olio and a provincial councillor for the Socialist Party.
In 1932 he bought the cement works Cementirossi in Piacenza and greatly increased the structure. The company grew and made a decisive contribution to the reconstruction of the country after the Second World War.
In 1952 he received the decoration of Cavaliere del Lavoro.
He died in Milan in 1959.
