Castle of the Maggia
Villa Maggia
Built in the Middle Ages on top of an earlier Roman settlement, a stretch of Roman wall is preserved on the south side.
The Confalonieri, the Landi, the Cornazzano and the Marquesses Maggi owned the castle at various times.
More recently it belonged to the Arcelli.
The castle first began to be known as the Castello della Maggia when it belonged to the Marchioness Angela Teresa Maggi.
The structure shows signs of numerous reconstructions or modifications, some perhaps the result of warfare.
The castle has a square plan with towers. The 12th-century tower shows signs of the drawbridge needed to cross the moat, which has now been filled in.
