The Museo della Vite e del Vino is part of La Tosa wine estate on the hills of Vigolzone.
Founded in 1995, it is the result of the great love of the owners, Ferruccio and Stefano Pizzamiglio, for the history of viticulture and everythihg to do with wine making.
The museum is one of the few examples of its kind in Emilia-Romagna and belongs to the Associazione Piacenza Musei. The collection is now housed under a portico and in three rooms, and includes more than 300 items.
Almost all the objects date from the period between the middle of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth, and are arranged in a time sequence describing the annual phases of cultivation of the vineyard and making of the wine.
There is a complete set of all the tools used for making the wooden barrels, and a collection of 150 postcards on the subject.
Another section of of the museum is the library, with four collections: one with more than a thousand books and periodicals on wine-making, Italian and French, from the first year of the 19th century up to the early twentieth; one of old prints and one of documents (the oldest from the 14th and 16th centuries), mostly local, on the same subject; finally, one of cadastral charts and maps of the vineyards of Piacenza in the 18th and 19th centuries.
The reception rooms of the estate buildings are hung with old tools and pieces of agricultural equipment or objects to do with the running of a rural homestead, such as a huge collection of irons for pressing clothes.
