Sant'Angelo a Nure at Vigolzone
Along the Nure at Vigolzone, very close to the river bank, there stands a tower called Sant'Angelo, in all likelihood the oldest church in the town, founded in the 7th or 8th century, possibly by the Lombards.
There is another point of historical interest attached to this place: according to some historians, it was right here at Sant'Angelo that Hannibal inflicted a terrible defeat on the Roman legions commanded by Scipio in the year 218 BC.
The name of Vigolzone, Vícus ultionis, derives from this event, as it means "village of revenge".
