The Paper mill at Albarola
There was an important paper mill at Albarola, founded by the Barattieri family. Watermarked paper was produced from the bark of mulberry trees.
In the mid 19th century, production was about 2 kg of paper a day, reaching 500 kg a hundred years later.
Evidence of the the tradition of producing watermarked paper in this area is seen also in the books from here now in the Municipal Library of Piacenza, such as the "Corpus Byzantinae historiae" published in Venice in 1722-23.
